Therapy for Creative People
Person-Centred Counsellor | Cornwall | Online
I’m a BACP-qualified and registered person-centred counsellor. I have training in the following areas: domestic abuse, children’s mental health, stress management, and family therapy, all of which contribute to the specialist therapy I offer to creative people.
My own work as a writer, actor, and musician, combined with my counselling training and experience, gives me a unique insight into the demands of a creative life and how therapy can offer space to pause, reflect, and find a way forward.
My approach to therapy
I work as a person-centred counsellor, which means we begin with what you bring.
There’s no fixed agenda or expectation for you to arrive with everything clearly defined. Instead, we take time to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
It’s a practical and constructive approach. We’ll work together to help you understand what’s going on for you, and to discover what you might need to move forward.
Therapy offers a space to:
- Make sense of difficult thoughts or feelings
- Explore patterns in your life or work
- Reconnect with yourself
- Find clarity during periods of uncertainty or change
You don’t need to be in crisis to begin. Sometimes it’s simply about having somewhere to think things through with someone who is attentive, open and non-judgemental.
A bit more about me
I’ve spent much of my working life in creative industries – starting as an actor and musician, and then working for around 25 years as a writer for television, as well as some work in film.
If you’d prefer, you can hear me talk a little about my work below.
I know the particular energy that comes with creative work – the moments when things flow, when you feel completely absorbed in what you’re doing, when something meaningful takes shape. But I also understand the complexity of using yourself as a creative resource, and the impact that can have on your emotional life.
Creative work often asks us to draw on something personal. Over time, that can become difficult to sustain without support.
Alongside my work in creative fields, I became increasingly interested in how we understand ourselves – how we make sense of our experiences, and how we stay connected to who we are. This led me to train as a person-centred therapist.
I now work with creative people at different stages of their lives and careers, offering a space where you can speak openly and begin to make sense of whatever you’re facing.
How we can work
I offer counselling therapy in a way that fits around your life and work.
This flexibility means we can work together whether you’re based locally, travelling, or working remotely.
